Definition:
Free cash flow, or owner earnings as Warren Buffet likes to call it, is a measure of the company's ability to generate cash over a period of time. We like to say it is the money an owner could take out of his business and spend for his own benefit.
Free cash flow is an important measure because it allows for the continuing capital expenditures that will be necessary to maintain a healthy business. Profit and even operating cash flow measures do not.
