GameStop (GME) Reports Q2 Loss, Misses Revenue Estimates

GameStop (GME) came out with a quarterly loss of $0.32 per share versus the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.22. This compares to earnings of $0.05 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of -45.45%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this video game retailer would post a loss of $0.02 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.07, delivering a surprise of 450%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.

GameStop, which belongs to the Zacks Retail - Consumer Electronics industry, posted revenues of $1.29 billion for the quarter ended July 2019, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 6.01%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $1.65 billion.

Worauf der Artikel nicht eingeht und worauf der Hype aber wohl zurückzuführen ist (laut einem Kollegen, der das seit November verfoglt): Reddit.

Die Wallstreetbets auf Reddit sind wohl so einflussreich, dass dadurch Kurse manipuliert werden können. Irgendwelche Hedgefonds, die short waren, haben wohl auch die SEC eingeschaltet und versuchen gegen Reddit wegen Marktmanipulation vorzugehen.
Muss man sich mal reinlesen.

Es waren wohl bisher alles Gamma-Squeezes, die echten Short-Squeezes kommen noch, wenn die Retail-Investoren den längeren Atem behalten.
