BlackRock's profit falls sharply in choppy markets

BlackRock reported $49.77 billion in net inflows for the period ended Dec. 31, compared with $102.93 billion in net inflows in the comparable 2017 period.

Investors as a whole put $28.29 billion into BlackRock equity products. The company's iShares ETFs had $81.4 billion in net inflows for the quarter.

Earnings for the asset manager fell 60% to $927 million, or $5.78 a share, from a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, the company posted earnings of $6.08 a share. Analysts expected $6.28 a share.

Revenue fell 9% to $3.43 billion, just below what analysts' expectations of $3.44 billion.

BlackRock, Inc.’s (BLK - Free Report) first-quarter 2019 adjusted earnings of $6.61 per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.20. However, the figure was 1.3% lower than the year-ago quarter’s number.

Results benefited from a decline in expenses and higher assets under management (AUM). However, lower revenues acted as a headwind.

Net income (on a GAAP basis) was $1.05 billion, decreasing 3.3% from the prior-year quarter.

der Fernsehsender ARTE brachte gestern das Thema "Blackrock-die unheimliche Macht eines Finanzkonzerns"

na ja, Arte eben. Da kann man keine objektive Berichterstattung erwarten. Hätte mir gewünscht, sie hätten die Anfänge der ETFs mit Bogle und Malkiel herausgearbeitet. Der Erfolg von Blackrock kam doch durch die Kostenersparnis gegenüber den herkömmlichen Finanzinstrumenten. Und ja, einige Punkte wie die Machtfülle von Blackrock sind bedenkenswert und regen zum Nachdenken an. Aber irgendwie dreht sich bei der Dokumentation alles im Kreis, es gibt keine schlüssige Argumentation. Will gar nicht näher auf die moralische Verantwortung, die Verstrickung in die Politik und die künstliche Intelligenz (Aladdin) eingehen. 

Nur einen Punkt habe ich mir rausgesucht, es betrifft den Begriff "common ownership". Für einen normalen Anleger ergibt es eigentlich keinen Sinn, Aktien von konkurrierenden Unternehmen zu kaufen. Wer bspw. alle deutschen Autoaktien hält erhöht nur sein Markt- und Depotrisiko. Vermögensverwalter wie Blackrock und Vanguard müssen aber überall dabei sein. Einer Studie zufolge führte das "common ownership" in der US-Airline-Branche zu geringeren Wettbewerb und höheren Ticketpreisen.

BlackRock (BLK) Q4 Earnings Beat Estimates as Revenues Rise

BlackRock, Inc.’s BLK fourth-quarter 2019 adjusted earnings of $8.34 per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $7.67. Moreover, the figure was 37.2% higher than the year-ago quarter’s number.

Results benefitted from an improvement in revenues. Moreover, growth in assets under management (AUM), driven by net inflows, was a positive. However, higher expenses hurt results to some extent.

Net income attributable to BlackRock (on a GAAP basis) was $1.30 billion, up 40.3% from the prior-year quarter.

For 2019, adjusted earnings were $28.48 per share, up from $26.93 recorded a year ago. Moreover, the figure surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $27.87 per share. Net income attributable to BlackRock (GAAP basis) was $4.48 billion for the year, increasing 4% from the previous year.

BlackRock (BLK) came out with quarterly earnings of $6.60 per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.69 per share. This compares to earnings of $6.61 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of -1.35%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this investment firm would post earnings of $7.67 per share when it actually produced earnings of $8.34, delivering a surprise of 8.74%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.

BlackRock, which belongs to the Zacks Financial - Investment Management industry, posted revenues of $3.71 billion for the quarter ended March 2020, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 3.60%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $3.35 billion.

BlackRock, Inc.’s BLK second-quarter 2020 adjusted earnings of $7.85 per share hugely surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.90. The figure reflects a rise of 22.5% from the year-ago quarter’s number.

Results benefited from an improvement in revenues. Also, expenses declined marginally. Further, long-term net inflows resulted in a rise in assets under management (AUM) balance, which was a major positive for the company.

Net income attributable to BlackRock (on a GAAP basis) was $1.21 billion, up 21% from the prior-year quarter.
