Autodesk stock surges after earnings, outlook beat

Autodesk Inc. shares ADSK, +7.52% rallied in the extended session Tuesday after the software company's quarterly results and outlook topped Wall Street views. Autodesk shares surged 9% after hours, following a 2.1% decline to close the regular session at $123.05. The company reported a third-quarter loss of $23.7 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with $119.8 million, or 55 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were 29 cents a share. Revenue rose to $660.9 million from $515.3 million in the year-ago quarter.

Autodesk Earnings, Revenue beat in Q4

The firm reported earnings per share of $0.46 on revenue of $737.3M (NYSE:MMM). Analysts polled by Investing.com forecast EPS of $0.42 on revenue of $707.31M. That compared to EPS of $-0.09 on revenue of $553.8M in the same period a year earlier. The company had reported EPS of $0.29 on revenue of $660.9M in the previous quarter.

Autodesk shares gained 2.01% to trade at $166.28 in after-hours trade following the report.

Autodesk (ADSK) Q1 Earnings Miss Estimates, Revenues Up Y/Y

Autodesk ADSK reported first-quarter fiscal 2020 non-GAAP earnings of 45 cents per share that missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by a couple of cents. However, the figure was much better than earnings of 6 cents posted in the year-ago quarter.

Revenues of $735.5 million lagged the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $741 million but increased 31.4% year over year. At constant currency (cc), revenues grew 30%.

Recurring revenues represented 96% of Autodesk’s first-quarter fiscal 2020 revenues compared with 95% in the year-ago quarter.

Autodesk (ADSK) Q2 Earnings and Revenues Top Estimates

Autodesk (ADSK) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.98 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.90 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.65 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 8.89%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this design software company would post earnings of $0.81 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.85, delivering a surprise of 4.94%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.

Autodesk, which belongs to the Zacks Computer - Software industry, posted revenues of $913.10 million for the quarter ended July 2020, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.32%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $796.80 million.

Andrew Anagnost ist President und CEO von Autodesk. Zuvor war er als Chief Marketing Officer und Leiter der Abteilung Unternehmensstrategie und Marketing verantwortlich für die unternehmensweite Marketingstrategie und -ressourcen und spielte eine federführende Rolle bei der Transformation und Weiterentwicklung des Geschäftsmodells. Anagnost ist seit 1997 bei Autodesk und war davor als Ingenieur in den Bereichen Verbundwerkstoffe und Antriebstechnik bei der Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company tätig. Nach seinem Weggang von Lockheed promovierte er an der Stanford University und arbeitete dann als Postdoktorand des National Research Council am Ames Research Center der NASA. Anagnost schloss seinen Bachelor of Science in Maschinenbautechnik an der California State University ab und besitzt außerdem einen Master of Science in Ingenieurwissenschaften und einen Doktor in Luftfahrttechnik und Computerwissenschaft von Stanford.
