Exelon (EXC) Posts In-Line Q4 Earnings, Beats on Revenues

Exelon Corporation’s EXC fourth-quarter 2018 operating earnings of 58 cents per share were on par with the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The reported earnings were 3.6% higher than the year-ago figure of 56 cents.
 
The company’s year-over-year improvement in the bottom line was due higher utility earnings from ComEd and regulatory rate increases at PHI.

On a GAAP basis, its quarterly earnings were 16 cents per share compared with $1.94 in the year-ago quarter.

Total Revenues

Exelon's total revenues of $8,814 million surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $7,222 million by 22.1%. Revenues also improved 5.4% from year-ago quarter. The improvement in revenues was due strong performance from Utility and Generation businesses.

Exelon Corporation’s EXC first-quarter 2019 operating earnings of 87 cents per share were on par with the Zacks Consensus Estimate. However, the reported earnings were 9.4% lower than the year-ago figure of 96 cents.
 
The year-over-year decline in earnings was primarily due to lower realized energy prices.

On a GAAP basis, its quarterly earnings were 93 cents per share compared with 60 cents in the year-ago quarter.

Total Revenues

Exelon's total revenues of $9,477 million surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $9,395 million by 0.9%. However, the top line declined 2.3% from the year-ago quarter.

Exelon (EXC) Q4 Earnings Surpass Estimates, Revenues Miss

Exelon Corporation’s EXC fourth-quarter 2019 operating earnings of 83 cents per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 73 cents by 13.6%. Also, the reported earnings were 43.1% higher than the year-ago figure of 58 cents.

The year-over-year increase in earnings was due to rate increases at PECO, BGE and PHI, lower operating expenses, higher realized energy prices and decrease in nuclear outage days.

On a GAAP basis, its quarterly earnings were 79 cents per share compared with 16 cents in the year-ago quarter.
