Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast earnings of $4.82 a share on revenue of $21.73 billion. For 2019, IBM said it expects adjusted earnings of "at least $13.90" a share, while analysts forecast $13.80.

The company reported first-quarter net income of $1.59 billion, or $1.78 a share, compared with $1.68 billion, or $1.81 a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were $2.25 a share.

Revenue declined to $18.18 billion from $19.07 billion in the year-ago quarter.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast earnings of $2.22 a share on revenue of $18.47 billion.

Umsatzrückgang im ersten Quartal - IBM: Cloud-Dienste enttäuschen

Beim Vorstoß in neuere Geschäftsfelder wie Cloud-Dienste oder Datenanalyse-Lösungen ist IBM im ersten Quartal nur schleppend vorangekommen - eine bittere Erkenntnis.

Der Umsatz sank im ersten Quartal im Jahresvergleich um 4,7 Prozent auf 18,2 Milliarden Dollar, wie der IT-Konzern am Dienstag nach US-Börsenschluss mitteilte. Damit wurden die Prognosen klar verfehlt. Der Quartalsgewinn sank um fünf Prozent auf 1,6 Milliarden Dollar, fiel damit aber noch etwas höher aus als erwartet.

Bitteres Eingeständnis

Hinter dem Vorstoß bei Red Hat steht Experten zufolge ein für IBM bitteres Eingeständnis: Die mit viel Energie und Aufwand angebotene Künstliche Intelligenz "Watson" wird nicht ausreichen, um das Unternehmen auf neue Wachstumspfade zu schicken. Die erneut schwachen Quartalszahlen zeigen Analysten zufolge zudem, dass IBM Probleme hat, im Wachstumsmarkt Cloud-Computing den Vorsprung von Amazon und Microsoft aufzuholen.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 3.59%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this technology and consulting company would post earnings of $2.21 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.25, delivering a surprise of 1.81%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.

IBM, which belongs to the Zacks Computer - Integrated Systems industry, posted revenues of $19.16 billion for the quarter ended June 2019, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.25%.

IBM Shares Slide After Q3 Revenue Miss; Red Hat Deal Fails to Boost 2019 Outlook


Zitat:International Business Machines (IBM - Get Report) shares were indicated sharply lower in pre-market trading Thursday after the group posted disappointing third quarter earnings in the first full update to include its $34 billion acquisition of Linux-maker Red Hat.

IBM said non-GAAP earnings for the three months ending in September came in at $2.68 per share, down 21.6% from the same period last year but a penny ahead of the Street consensus forecast. Group revenues, IBM said, fell 3.9% to $18 billion, missing analysts' forecasts of an $18.29 billion tally. 

IBM's cloud and cognitive software unit, the division in which it placed Red Hat, saw revenues rise 6.4% to $5.28 billion, while IBM's IBM's cloud services revenues rose 11% to $5 billion. Global technology services, IBM's biggest division, saw revenues fall 5.6% to $6.7 billion.

IBM's Q4 Earnings Top Estimates, Cloud Momentum Aids Revenues

International Business Machines Corporation IBM reported fourth-quarter 2019 non-GAAP earnings of $4.71 per share, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.4%. However, the bottom line fell 3% on a year-over-year basis.

Revenues of $21.78 billion surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.4% and inched up 0.1% on a year-over-year basis. At constant currency (cc), the top line improved 1%. Adjusting for currency and divested businesses, the top line increased 3%.

The year-over-year revenue growth can primarily be attributed to increase in Cloud & Cognitive Software Segment and Systems revenues. Markedly, total Cloud revenues came in at $6.8 billion during the quarter, up 21% year on year.

However, revenues from signings declined 9% (at cc) in the fourth quarter to $14.4 billion. Also, backlog fell 3% (at cc) year over year and amounted to $112.4 billion.

Damit ist die IBM-Aktie ja endlich wieder kaufbar.

Aus meiner Sicht hätte das zwar schon vor fünf Jahren passieren müssen, aber besser spät als nie.
